CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Sept. 13) – In a highly competitive field on Friday evening, the University of Mount Olive men's cross country program placed eighth overall in the team standings while competing at the Queen City Invite hosted at McAlpine Park.
Emory, the No. 23 ranked Division III program in the country, earned the team title with 50 points after featuring five runners in the top 15 on the individual leaderboard. Wingate, the top-ranked program in DII, finished second overall after tallying 60 points with a pair of individuals in the top 10, while Davidson finished third with 70 points.
A native of Apex, North Carolina, sophomore
Evan Hall led the Trojans with a 51st-place finish after crossing the line in 27 minutes, 17.66 seconds while competing in the eight-kilometer race on Friday. Senior
Aman Tsegay finished two positions back in 53rd with a time of 27:23.31 in a field of nearly 150 runners.
Junior
Josh Hendren delivered a personal best time and placed 57th with a time of 27:25.72 while freshman
Ayden Thompson placed 83rd overall after crossing the line in 28:32.54. In the Queen City, senior
Richard Villafranco rounded out the team scorers for Mount Olive with a time of 28:47.86 to finish 89th.
Freshman
James Cabrera delivered a 93rd-place finish at McAlpine Park with a time of 28:58.72 while freshman
Cullen Pfanmiller crossed the line with a time of 30:04.65 to place 106th. Additionally, freshman
Titus Tanui (107th, 30:07.62), sophomore
Devon Coughlin (118th, 31:58.43), and
Adam Hill (125th, 33:50.86) competed in the race.
Senior Jacob Parkinson of Lenoir-Rhyne won the race by 1.9 seconds with a final time of 24:39.25 to claim individual medalist honors.
The Trojans will be idle for three weeks before competing at the Pirate Invitational hosted by ECU at Overton's Lake Kristi in Greenville, South Carolina, on Friday, Oct. 4.
