CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Sept. 10) – After firing the second-lowest score of the final round, the Trojans finished sixth overall in the team standings behind a pair of individuals in the top 20 on Tuesday at the UC Invitational hosted by Charleston.
The University of Mount Olive women's golf program posted a 94-over 654 (342-312) while competing at the 15-team event, which featured multiple schools from the Mountain East Conference (MEC). The host Golden Eagles won the tournament title by two strokes with a 67-over 627 (317-310) with four golfers in the top 10 on the individual leaderboard. Glenville State placed second with a 69-over 629 (314-315), while Barton finished third with a score of 83-over 643 (311-332) at the Berry Hills Country Club.
In her debut with the Trojans, junior transfer
Aoi Ito leaped 34 positions on the individual leaderboard to tie for 15th overall with a 21-over 161 (90-71). She led UMO with four birdies while adding 13 pars over the two-round event. During the final round, Ito fired the lowest round of the event with a one-over 71 on Tuesday after shooting four birdies on the front nine.
Senior
Victoria Morelli finished 19th overall after climbing three spots on the final day with a score of 22-over 162 (82-80). She paced the team with 14 pars while carding two birdies and an eagle on the par-five four holes.
Sophomore
Valentina Agostino tied for 29th with a 28-over 168 (90-78) and jumped 20 places with 12 pars and two birdies. Junior transfer
Elin Kennborn finished in a tie for 32nd after carding a 29-over 169 (86-83) behind 13 pars and one birdie. Sophomore
Lucie Levet tied for 48th overall with a score of 36-over 176 (84-92).
Emory & Henry sophomore Abby Bradley earned individual medalist honors by three strokes after firing a 10-over 150 (76-74).
Mount Olive is idle for a month before competing at the Barton Fall Invitational on Oct. 7-8 in Snow Hill, North Carolina.
