WINGATE, N.C. (April 4) – Following a weekend sweep in conference play, the University of Mount Olive baseball team leaped three positions to No. 13 in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) poll, which was released by the organization on Wednesday.
The Trojans hold an 11-game winning streak after collecting a 12-4 victory over Wingate on Tuesday evening in a Southeast Regional matchup. Mount Olive sits atop the Conference Carolinas standings with a 14-3 record and is set to begin a three-game series against Southern Wesleyan at Scarborough Field on Friday. Graduate student
Landon Choboy paces the Trojan offense with a .394 batting average behind three homers, six doubles, and 32 RBIs. He has reached base in 25 straight games while boasting a 10-game hitting streak.
The Conference Carolinas features four programs in the top 25 poll with North Greenville(26-7) remaining No. 3 after a series sweep over Young Harris. Mount Olive jumped to No. 13 overall while Young Harris (25-9) dropped five slots to No. 15 after four consecutive losses. Barton slipped to No. 23 in the latest rankings despite a three-game sweep over King last week. In the Southeast Region, Catawba entered the poll at No. 21 with a 25-9 mark while UNC Pembroke (25-9) is receiving votes.
Tampa (29-3) remains the top-ranked team in the country after winning eight of its last nine games, while Central Missouri reached the 30-win mark and has won eight straight games to continue to hold the No. 2 spot. North Greenville (26-7) continues to sit third overall while West Texas A&M and Point Loma rounded out the top five.
The Trojans return to Scarborough Field on Friday, April 5, to begin a three-game series versus Southern Wesleyan with the first pitch scheduled at 5 p.m.
