SPARTANBURG, S.C. (April 19) – Freshman Victoria Calle rallied to a victory at No. 3 singles, as the Trojans prevailed in a 4-3 win at Converse on Friday afternoon in Conference Carolinas action.

With the win, the University of Mount Olive women's tennis program improves to 8-9 overall with a 5-3 record in league action. It marks 14 consecutive victories for the Trojans in the all-time series while UMO continues to battle for seeding in the league tournament during the final week of the regular season. Meanwhile, Converse falls to 7-12 this season behind a 2-6 mark in conference play.

The Trojans secured the opening point of the match after claiming two of the three doubles matches on Friday. In the first slot, senior Jessica Aylward and freshman Simone Szovan battled to a 7-6 (7-2) win over Tonya Glogowski-Watson and Lais Martins. Freshmen Victoria Calle and Valeria Guerrero recorded a 7-6 (7-1) victory against Khushi Kharb and Natalie White in the second position, while freshman Lara Stamereilers and sophomore Alina Esser dropped a 6-4 decision in the third doubles to Sofia Giraldo Jimenez and Anna Trace.

In the singles session, Mount Olive registered three of a possible six victories to earn the 4-3 team win. In the first position, Stamereilers won in straight-sets 6-3, 6-1 versus Glogowski-Watson before Guerrero fell by a 6-3, 6-3 margin to Kharb in the second slot. In the third singles, Calle won the decisive match 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 over White. In the fourth slot, Szovan battled to a 0-6, 6-3, 6-0 victory against Giraldo Jimenez before freshman Sara Gajbhiye was dealt a 6-4, 6-3 loss to Martins in the fifth singles. In the sixth position, Esser suffered a 6-4, 6-3 loss to Martins.

Mount Olive closes out the regular season tomorrow, Saturday, April 20, at Belmont Abbey in Conference Carolinas action, starting at 10 a.m.
