Women's Tennis falls to Campbell, 7-0

MOUNT OLIVE (April 2) – In a rematch from earlier this spring, the University of Mount Olive women's tennis team suffered a 7-0 loss to Campbell, a Division I opponent, in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon.

With the loss, the Trojans drop to 5-7 this season while holding a 2-3 record at the John Neal Walker Tennis Center. Mount Olive enters the final three weeks of the regular season and will play its final six matches all in league play. Meanwhile, the Fighting Camels improve to 10-6 overall with a 3-0 mark against Conference Carolinas opponents.

Campbell swept the double portion after claiming all three matches over the Trojans. Senior Jessica Aylward and freshman Simone Szovan were dealt a 3-6 loss by Lena Karlovcan and Eeva Ristola in the first position. In the second singles, the freshmen duo of Victoria Calle and Valeria Guerrero dropped a 2-6 decision against Mariana Ossa and Lily Chitamba, while freshman Lara Stamereilers and sophomore Alina Esser in the third spot fell by a 2-6 margin to Mialy Ranaivo and Tamsin Hart.

The Fighting Camels secured a 7-0 victory after collecting all six singles matches. In the first singles, Stamereilers suffered a 2-6, 2-6 loss to Ranaivo before Guerrero dropped a 3-6, 0-6 decision to Chitamber in the second position. In the third slot, Calle fell by a final score of 1-6, 4-6 to Hart while Szovan was dealt a 4-6, 3-6 loss versus Ristola. Freshman Sara Gajbhiye suffered a 0-6, 5-7 defeat by Ossa in the fifth singles before Esser dropped a 1-6, 0-6 loss to Karlovcan in the sixth position.

The Trojans return to Conference Carolinas play this Friday, April 5, against rival Barton at 2 p.m.
