SPARTANBURG, S.C. (April 19) – In a rain-shorten match, the No. 22 ranked Trojans captured a 4-0 victory against Converse on the road in Conference Carolinas play on Friday afternoon.
With the win, the University of Mount Olive men's tennis program collects a third consecutive win and improves to 14-3 this season behind a 6-1 mark in league action. The Trojans earn a five-straight win over the Valkyries while keeping pace in the top of the conference standings. Meanwhile, Converse falls to 8-8 overall and 3-4 in conference play.
Mount Olive swept the doubles portion of the match to garner an early 1-0 advantage on Friday. In the first doubles, senior
Guilherme Zotin de Oliveira and freshman
Kristoffer Dalbak claimed a 7-5 victory over Leopold Morel and Marty Letessier. Freshman
Lenn Hoffmann and sophomore
Bram Poel produced a 6-2 win in the second position against Takuma Furumaki and Manuel Roncero before sophomore
Niklas Gruenefeldt and senior
Adam Ibrahim posted a 6-3 victory versus Stanley Waters and Ben Hyde-Smith in the third slot.
In the singles session, the Trojans captured three of the singles matches to clinch the 4-0 victory while three matches were left unfinished. In the third position, Dalbak secured a quick 6-1, 6-2 win over Letessier before Poel collected a 6-1, 6-3 victory in the fourth singles against Morel. Ibrahim registered a 6-2, 6-3 win versus Cameron Davies in the sixth slot.
The Trojans close out the regular season tomorrow, Saturday, April 20, at Belmont Abbey in Conference Carolinas action, starting at 10 a.m.
