MOUNT OLIVE (April 12) – Entering the final week of the regular season, the Trojans collected a quick 7-0 victory over King on Senior Day in Conference Carolinas play at the John Neal Walker Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
With the win, the University of Mount Olive women's tennis team improves to 7-8 overall with a 4-2 mark in conference action. The Trojans collected a 12th consecutive victory over the Tornado dating back to 2012 while keeping pace in the top five of the league standings. Meanwhile, King falls to 0-13 this season behind a 0-5 mark in league play.
The Trojans secured the doubles point after receiving victories via default at the second and third positions. In the lone match, freshman
Sara Gajbhiye and senior
Karlyn Ray fell by a 1-6 margin against Deniz Aytun and Mishka Koricinova in the first doubles.
In the singles portion of the match, Mount Olive claimed wins in five of the six matches, including three by default. In the first slot, freshman
Lara Stamereilers dropped a 0-6, 6-3, 0-1 (7-10) decision to Aytun before sophomore
Alina Esser delivered a 6-0, 6-1 win over Koricinova in the second position. In the third singles, senior
Jessica Aylward produced a 6-2, 6-0 victory versus Mireia Mas Ortega while the Trojans registered victories at No. 4, 5, 6 via default.
Mount Olive returns to the court tomorrow, Saturday, April 13, when it hosts Lees-McRae in Conference Carolinas play at 11 a.m.
