UMO returns to the NCBWA poll at No. 16

WINGATE, N.C. (March 28) – After a sweep over a nationally-ranked opponent, the University of Mount Olive baseball program was featured at No. 16 overall in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) poll, which was released by the organization on Wednesday.

Mount Olive is currently riding a seven-game winning streak and holds a 21-8 overall record with an 11-3 mark in Conference Carolinas action. Right-handed pitcher Ethan Imbimbo claimed his second NCBWA Southeast Region Pitcher of the Week award after tossing the first no-hitter since 2011. The Trojans also ranked No. 3 in the NCBWA Southeast Region poll following a 4-0 week.

The Conference Carolinas features four programs in the top 25 poll with NGU (22-7) holding the No. 3 slot while Young Harris (24-5) remained ninth overall. Mount Olive reentered at No. 16 after spending a week outside the poll, while Barton (24-6) debuted at No. 20. The region also has a trio of teams receiving votes in Catawba (22-8), Georgia Southwestern (24-7) and Lander (20-9).

Tampa (26-2) continues to remain atop the Division II poll with an impressive 14-1 record at home and garnered all 20 first-place votes. Central Missouri (27-4) sits No. 2 overall behind a 15-2 record in MIAA conference play, while North Greenville holds the third slot in the rankings. West Texas A&M (22-8) was positioned fourth overall and Point Loma (22-8-1) rounded out the top five overall.

The Trojans will begin a three-game series in Conference Carolinas play tomorrow, Friday, March 29, against Chowan at 5 p.m.
