GREENVILLE, S.C. (March 27) – Following an undefeated 4-0 week, the University of Mount Olive baseball program collected a pair of Conference Carolinas accolades, as graduate student
Ethan Imbimbo was selected Pitcher of the Week and graduate student
Landon Choboy was named Player of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.
A 6-foot-4 right-handed pitcher, Imbimbo joined exclusive company in Mount Olive history after recording the first no-hitter since Mount Olive Hall of Famer and former MLB draft pick, Carter Capps achieved the feat against Coker in 2011. Imbimbo pitched seven innings on 88 pitches and tallied six strikeouts and zero walks while facing the minimum 21 batters in an 11-0 win over No. 21 ranked UNC Pembroke on Thursday night.
Making the transition from reliever to starter this season, Imbimbo boasts an impressive 5-0 record on the mound with 32 strikeouts and 14 walks over 37.1 innings pitched. He has held his opponents to a .189 batting average this season, which leads Conference Carolinas this season.
A graduate student from Raleigh, North Carolina, Choboy finished with an impressive .500 batting average, going 6-for-12 with one home run and four runs scored. He also drove in six runs as the Trojans produced a 4-0 record last week. On Tuesday evening, he went 3-for-3 with a home run, drove in three, scored twice and added a walk in a 15-11 win over Catawba.
In the series opener against No. 21 UNC Pembroke on Thursday, Choboy delivered a two-run single to center field in a 9-8 comeback victory before going 1-for-1 with a double, two runs scored, three walks and one stolen base in an 11-0 win against the Braves. In game three last Sunday afternoon, he finished with a hit to extend his on-base streak to 20 straight games.
The Trojans will begin a three-game series in Conference Carolinas play on Friday, March 29, against Chowan with the first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m.
