No. 23 UMO extends streak in win over Emmanuel, 6-1

MOUNT OLIVE (March 16) – After winning five of the six singles matches, the No. 23 ranked University of Mount Olive men's tennis program clinched a 6-1 victory over Emmanuel in non-conference play on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Trojans extend their winning streak to an impressive eight straight and improve to 8-1 overall behind a 3-0 record at John Neal Walker Tennis Center. Mount Olive has won the previous four matches against Emmanuel on their home court while boasting a 6-3 mark in the series dating back to 2016. Meanwhile, the Lions drop to 5-4 with an 0-2 record against Conference Carolinas opponents.

Mount Olive claimed the doubles point on Saturday after securing wins in the first and third positions. In the first slot, senior Guilherme Zotin de Oliveira and freshman Kristoffer Dalbak recorded a 6-3 win over Murilo Gracio and James Girdler. Freshman Lenn Hoffmann and sophomore Bram Poel delivered a 6-3 victory against Alejandro Gomez and Marcos Llorens in the third slot, while the match at second doubles went unfinished.

In the singles session, the Trojans captured five of the six singles matches to seal the 6-1 win. de Oliveira won in straight sets in first singles by a score of 6-3, 6-2 versus Gracio, while Dalbak rallied to a 4-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-5) victory over Girdler in the second position. In the third slot, Poel rolled past Henrique Castro by a 6-0, 6-2 margin before sophomore Kabir Chhabria fell by a final score of 6-7, 2-6 to Georg Stettler in the fourth singles. In the fifth position, senior Adam Ibrahim posted a straight-sets win over Gomez before freshman Hampus Hagglund won by a score of 6-1, 2-6, 1-0 (10-4) versus Jose Calderon.

Mount Olive begins Conference Carolinas play on Wednesday, March 20, when it faces Chowan on the road at 2 p.m.
