UMO competes in exhibition at North Carolina A&T

GREENSBORO, N.C. (Dec. 31) – In the final contest of 2024, the University of Mount Olive women's basketball program suffered a 100-42 loss in an exhibition contest against North Carolina A&T on Tuesday evening.

With the result, the Trojans remain at 1-10 this season and are set to play 14 straight Conference Carolinas contests in 2025. Mount Olive competed in a pair of Division I exhibitions this year versus Campbell and A&T. Meanwhile, the Aggies improve to 4-7 overall while boasting a 3-2 record at home.

Junior Savannah McAfee led the Trojans with nine points on four-of-seven shooting while adding three rebounds, one block, and three steals in 27 minutes. Fellow junior Jada Priebe finished with seven points, nine rebounds, one assist, two blocks, and two steals in 33 minutes on the court. Sophomore Alondra Arroyo contributed seven points, one rebound, and two steals in 25 minutes.

Mount Olive scored the opening basket of the contest on a jumper from Priebe before the sides exchanged points through the initial seven-plus minutes. With UMO ahead by a 15-14 margin with 2:57 to go in the first, the Aggies closed the quarter with nine unanswered points to hold a 23-15 advantage. A&T responded with a dominant second-quarter performance after totaling 31 points on 11-of-18 shooting while holding Mount Olive to just four points. The Aggies went into the break with a 54-19 lead.

In the third quarter, A&T continued their impressive offensive performance after converting 10-of-23 from the floor with 26 points as the Trojans were held to single-digit points. With the Aggies ahead 80-26 entering the fourth, Mount Olive made 46.7 percent (7-of-15) with McAfee and Priebe combining for nine of the 16 points scored in the quarter.

The Trojans finished the game shooting 35.4 percent (17-of-48) from the floor and converted 6-of-10 (60.0 percent) from the free-throw line. Meanwhile, the Aggies shot at a 50.7 clip (38-of-75) from the field and made 18-of-25 (72.0 percent) from the charity stripe. North Carolina A&T held a 47-27 rebounding advantage with 48 points off turnovers. Mount Olive scored 18 points in the paint and registered 11 points off turnovers.

A&T redshirt junior Chaniya Clark scored a game-high 20 points on 9-of-13 shooting with six rebounds, one steal, and three blocks in 14 minutes. Sophomore Paris Locke registered 14 points on 6-of-11 from the floor while adding five rebounds, five assists, and three steals in 22 minutes.

Mount Olive will host Lees-McRae on Saturday, Jan. 4, in Conference Carolinas play, starting at 2 p.m.
