SNOW HILL, N.C. (Oct. 8) – Behind four golfers in the top 15 on the individual leaderboard, the University of Mount Olive women's golf program finished second overall in the team standings at the Barton Fall Invitational on Tuesday at the Cutter Creek Golf Club.
Milligan (Tenn.) secured the tournament title following three rounds of play with a score of 46-over 910 (307-301-302), which won the event by 12 strokes. Mount Olive finished runner-up after carding a score of 58-over 922 (307-306-209), while Emmanuel placed third in the team standings with a final score of 60-over 924 (303-315-306). The event also served as a preview of the Conference Carolinas Championship site, which will host the women's event in the spring of 2025.
Entering the final round of the individual leader, sophomore
Valentina Agostino registered a score of seven-over 79 on Tuesday to place fourth overall in a field of over 50 competitors. She finished four strokes of the lead with a 10-over 226 (73-74-79) behind a team-best 10 birdies while sinking 28 pars. Agostino logged six birdies on the back nine, all recorded on different holes at Cutter Creek.
Junior
Aoi Ito climbed four positions during the third round after firing a three-over 75 with four birdies. She posted a final score of 14-over 230 (79-76-75) to finish seventh with six birdies and 32 pars in her second event with the Trojans. Sophomore
Lucie Levet placed one spot back in eighth with a 16-over 232 (76-78-78) behind six birdies and 28 pars over three rounds. Senior
Victoria Morelli leaped three slots on the individual leaderboard to tie for 11th with an 18-over 234 (79-78-77) following three birdies and a team-best 33 pars. Sophomore
Claire Beitel rounded out the team scorers with a 25-over 241 (79-78-84) behind four birdies and 26 pars in her first appearance of the fall.
Additionally, the Trojans had four golfers competing individually in a field that featured six Conference Carolinas programs. Junior
Elin Kennborn tied for 22nd with a 24-over 240 (79-78-83) totaling one birdie and 30 pars. Fellow junior
Violette Daudin finished in a tie for 30th overall with a score of 31-over 247 (82-82-83) behind two birdies and 24 pars. Junior
Alexis Lewis placed 52nd with an 88-over 304 (10-106-97) and freshman
Taylor Walden finished 53rd with a score of 145-over 361 (120-128-113).
Emmanuel junior Mara Martinez captured medalist honors with a six-over 222 (75-76-71) after posting an eagle on the par-five 18th holes.
The Trojans return to the course next week on October 14-15, when they travel to the St. Simons Intercollegiate in Georgia.
