INDIANAPOLIS (Oct. 3) – The University of Mount Olive and Cary were selected to host the NCAA Division II Baseball National Championship for 2027 and 2028 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex, as announced by the NCAA on Tuesday afternoon.
The announcement marks the extension of a 14-year partnership between Mount Olive and Cary, who have been co-hosts of the event since 2009. The NCAA Division II Baseball National Championship is set to be hosted in Cary, North Carolina from 2025 through 2028, which will mark the second-largest partnership in the history of the national event.
The Association chose over 240 host sites for preliminary and final rounds of predetermined championships across Divisions I, II, and III, primarily for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 seasons. This cycle marked a shift from a four-year to a two-year site selection process. It marked just the fourth time in its history, the NCAA conducted a comprehensive site selection process, putting most of its championships up for bid simultaneously.
The NCAA received more than 1,200 bids from member schools, conferences, cities, and sports commissions across 47 states and Washington, D.C., all competing to host predetermined rounds for 87 of the NCAA's 90 championships. The respective NCAA sports committees selected the sites, with final approval from the divisional competition oversight and championships committees.
As the host institution, Mount Olive is involved with all aspects of planning and administering the championship. UMO personnel handled the media coordination and sports medicine duties during the event.
Cary is one of seven cities to host the NCAA Division II Baseball National Finals in the 56-year history of the tournament. At the end of 2028, the 18-year hosting partnership is second-largest only behind Montgomery, Alabama, which hosted the National Finals from 1985-2007.
The 2025 NCAA Division II Baseball Championship is set to be hosted May 30-June 7, 2025.
