MOUNT OLIVE (Oct. 29) – In a rivalry match at Amon Field on Tuesday evening, the Trojans competed to a 1-1 draw versus Barton in Conference Carolinas play.
With the tie, the University of Mount Olive women's soccer team stands at 7-3-5 overall with a 5-3-3 mark in conference action. The Trojans continue to battle for a home postseason match as they are set to close the regular season this weekend at Francis Marion. Meanwhile, Barton moves to 4-6-4 this season behind a 1-5-4 record in league play.
Mount Olive established an early 1-0 lead in the 11th minute after sophomore
Yaneli Sanchez floated a free kick into the left side of the net from just around 25 yards out for her seventh goal of the season. The Trojans nearly added to their advantage at the 28:51 mark as junior
Addison Dangler volleyed a loose ball on the net off a corner kick, which was stopped by the goalkeeper. At halftime, UMO held a 5-2 edge in total shots while boasting a 2-1 lead in corner kicks.
In the second half, the Bulldogs found an answer in the 61st minute with a free-kick goal from Hannah Johnson that slipped through the goalkeeper's legs to tie the contest, 1-1. Mount Olive totaled six shots and two corner kicks over the final 25 minutes, but the match ended in a draw.
