Lara Stamereilers made an appearance in the round of 16, as the Trojans competed in the 2023 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southeast Regional Championships in Sumter, South Carolina, at the Palmetto Tennis Center over the weekend.
The University of Mount Olive women's tennis team featured a pair of doubles teams in the field of 48 teams, while two individuals competed in the singles play with just under 100 players in the tournament.
In singles competition, Stamereilers advanced to the round of 16 and posted a 3-1 record in her first appearance at the regional event. She registered a straight-sets victory 6-4, 6-2 in the opening round against Carolina Reis of North Georgia. The following round, Stamereilers produced a comeback win by a 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 margin versus Emma Bentz of Erksine, the 2023 Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year. On Saturday, she knocked off 16th seed Isidora Zivkovic of Catawba with a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Stamereilers fell in the round of 16 to fifth-seeded Mariana Ramirez of Columbus State by a score of 3-6, 6-4, 0-6.

Valeria Guerrero made her first appearance at regionals and suffered a 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) loss to Hanna Vasconez of Erskine in the first round.
In doubles play, the duo of Stamereilers and Guerrero posted an opening-round win by an 8-6 margin over Darja Chistov and Sabina Rou of Emmanuel. On Saturday, the tandem fell by a score of 8-4 to sixth-seeded Natasha Forrest and Summer Reeves of Carson-Newman.

Simone Szovan competed in doubles play and recorded a 9-8 (7-5) victory over Runa Muderrisoglu and Alicia Wahlberg of Lenoir-Rhyne in the first round. The duo suffered an 8-3 loss to Sofia Hernandez and Ami Miya of Catawba on Saturday.
The Trojans return to the court next week for the Belmont Abbey Tournament on Sept. 28-29.
