Cooney named D2CCA All-American

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (May 24) – University of Mount Olive junior Courtlynn Cooney was named a Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) Second-Team All-American at outfielder on Wednesday afternoon.

Cooney received the honor from the organization for a consecutive season, as she was a Third-Team All-American in the outfield in 2022. Additionally, Cooney was a consensus first-team all-region honoree this spring after garnering the accolade from both the D2CCA and National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).

As the leadoff hitter, Cooney registered a standout junior campaign and ranked second in NCAA Division II with a .503 batting average after starting all 43 games. The Maryland native paced the Conference Carolinas with 36 stolen bases while also ranking among the top five in the league with 73 hits and a .526 on-base percentage. Cooney also achieved a major career milestone by becoming the third player in program history to reach 200 career hits. She paced the team with 23 multi-hit performances, including eight games with at least three hits, while recording a 24-game hitting streak this year.

In addition to her All-American and All-Region honors, Cooney became a three-time first-time all-conference recipient and was voted to the all-defensive team in center field. She was also named to the Tucci/NFCA Player of the Year watchlist and featured on the Extra Elite 100.

Sports Information Directors from NCAA Division II schools and conferences selected the All-America Teams. The Teams are sponsored by D2CCA, which encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education.
