WILMINGTON, N.C. (Mar. 3) – The University of Mount Olive's women's tennis team competed against UNC Wilmington on the road this afternoon but unfortunately fell by a 6-1 margin.
With the loss, the Trojans drop to 3-9 this season with one more match on the schedule before conference action begins in two weeks. Meanwhile, the Seahawks of UNCW improve to 5-2 overall.
UNCW swept the doubles point winning all three sessions. In the first slot, senior
Liza Voloshyna and junior
Nele Weber registered their first loss this spring by a score of 6-3 against Eda Arli and Lauren Gish. Senior
Ingrid Montserrat and freshman
Oriana Izarra suffered a 6-4 loss against Zoe Huffman and Anna Daniels in the second position, before junior
Jessica Aylward and freshman
Laura Servien dropped the match in the third doubles with a score of 6-2 against Gabbie Glickstein and Meredith Taylor.
In singles play, the Seahawks continued to dominate winning five out of six matches. In the first slot, Montserrat was dealt a 6-1, 6-2 loss by Huffman, before Voloshyna dropped a 6-3, 6-1 match against Arli. Izarra captured the only win of the day at No. 3 singles with a score of 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 1-0 (10-5) against Daniels. In the fourth position, Weber fell 6-1, 6-1 to Gish, before Servien was defeated by Glickstein by a 6-2, 6-4 count. In sixth singles, freshman
Harshri Asher closed out singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 loss to Taylor.
The Trojans are idle for a week before returning to action for their last non-conference match against West Virginia Wesleyan on Thursday, Mar. 9, at 1:00 p.m. at John Neal Walker Tennis Center.
