Trojans beat Converse in second match of the week, 6-1

UMO wins fourth-straight dual match; Mount Olive is undefeated in conference doubles play

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. (March 24) – The University of Mount Olive women's tennis team stays unbeaten in conference action by winning against Converse by a 6-1 margin on Friday afternoon at John Neal Walker Tennis Center.

With the win, Mount Olive improves their record to 7-9 overall with a 3-0 mark in league action. Meanwhile, the Valkyries of Converse drop their third conference match to drop to 0-3 and 3-10 overall. 

The Trojans swept the doubles sessions to earn the point. In the first position, the No. 42 nationally-ranked team of senior Liza Voloshyna and junior Nele Weber defeated Tonya Glogowski-Watson and Khushi Kharb with a score of 6-3, before senior Ingrid Montserrat and freshman Oriana Izarra battled down Natalie White and Sofia Giaraldo-Jimenez by a score of 7-6 (7-2) in the second slot. In No. 3 doubles, junior Jessica Aylward and freshman Laura Servien made short work of their opponents Lais Martins and Luiza Estrada by capturing a 6-3 win.

UMO stayed strong in singles winning five out of six matches. In first singles, Montserrat overcame Glogowski-Watson 6-3, 6-3, before Voloshyna followed suit with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Kharb in the second slot. In No. 3 singles, Izarra fell to Giaraldo-Jimenez in three sets 6-0, 2-6, 6-2. Weber replied with a 6-1, 6-2 win versus Estrada in the fourth slot, while Servien triumphed against Martins with a 6-4, 6-1 count. In sixth singles, Aylward prevailed over Alexandra Romero in three sets 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7).

The Trojans will compete again this week facing Belmont Abbey on Saturday, March 25, at 11:00 a.m. at John Neal Walker Tennis Center.
