DUE WEST, S.C. (Feb. 18) – After featuring three players in double–figures on Saturday afternoon, the Trojans escaped with a 56-53 victory at Erskine in Conference Carolinas action.
With the win, the University of Mount Olive women's basketball team improves to 14-13 overall with a 10-9 mark in conference play. The Trojans have now won seven-straight games against the Flying Fleet while boasting a 16-2 record in the series dating back to 2013. Meanwhile, Erskine falls to 8-17 this season behind a 4-15 record in league action.
Freshman
Laila Anderson registered a team-high 15 points while totaling three rebounds, two assists, two steals, and one block in 35 minutes. Junior
Reagan Hune produced 12 points, eight rebounds, and four steals, while sophomore
Tiandria Tucker finished with 10 points and five rebounds. Junior
Haleigh Crews featured a balanced scoresheet with nine points, four rebounds, and four steals in 30 minutes.
The Trojans finished the game shooting 39.6 percent (21-of-53) from the floor while converting 11-of-17 (64.7 percent) from the free-throw line. Meanwhile, the Flying Fleet shot at a 46.0 clip (23-of-50) from the field and made just 6-of-22 (27.3 percent) from three-point range. Mount Olive finished with a 33-27 rebounding advantage and registered 21 points off 22 forced turnovers, while Erskine totaled 32 points in the paint.
UMO finishes the regular season on Wednesday, Feb. 22, when it travels to Francis Marion for league play, starting at 5:30 p.m.
