Mount Olive suffers loss against UNC Pembroke, 2-0

Trojans earn the No. 5 seed in the league tournament; Solicito matches her career-high with 10 saves

MOUNT OLIVE (Oct. 28) – After being out-shot by a 28-10 margin on Saturday night, the University of Mount Olive women's soccer team fell by a score of 2-0 versus UNC Pembroke in Conference Carolinas play at Amon Field.

With the loss, the Trojans close the regular season with a 5-4-7 record behind a 4-3-5 mark in conference action. Mount Olive will enter the Conference Carolinas Tournament as the No. 5 seed and will host Lees-McRae on Wednesday, Nov. 1, at 7 p.m. Meanwhile, the Braves won the East Division title with a 10-3-3 record and an 8-1-3 mark in league play.

UNC Pembroke registered a shot on goal in the opening minutes before tallying four more shots in the initial 20 minutes of the contest. At the 25:21 mark, Abigail Lowry intercepted a cross before delivering a shot that deflected into the goal to take a 1-0 advantage. In the closing minutes of the first half, graduate student goalkeeper Nicole Solicito collected a pair of saves to trail by one goal at the break.

In the second half, sophomore Addison Dangler laced a shot on goal in the 50th minute, which forced a save by the goalkeeper. The Braves continued to control possession and tallied several shots before finding a second goal in the 69th minute. Lowry played the goal kick from the keeper before delivering a through ball to Ashleigh Harris, who scored to extend the lead, 2-0.

Solicito matched her career-high with 10 saves on 28 shots faced while playing the entire 90 minutes.

UNC Pembroke finished with a 13-3 lead in shots on goal while also boasting a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Mount Olive enters postseason play on Wednesday, Nov. 1, when it hosts Lees-McRae in the first round of the Conference Carolinas Championship at Amon Field with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
