Addison Dangler delivered a stellar free-kick goal on Saturday afternoon, as the Trojans secured a 1-0 shutout win at Converse in Conference Carolinas play.
With the victory, the University of Mount Olive women's soccer team improves to 5-3-6 this season behind a 4-2-4 record in conference action. The Trojans claim a critical win in the league after entering the contest sixth in the KPI standings, which determines seeding in the Conference Carolinas Tournament. Meanwhile, Converse drops to 4-7-3 overall with a 2-6-2 mark in league play.
The Trojans controlled possession in the opening minutes of the match and totaled five shots in a nine-minute stretch. Despite early pressure Mount Olive was unable to break the deadlock and continued to pile up shots and corner kicks late into the first half. At the 27:16 mark, UMO earned a free kick and Dangler blasted a shot from distance into the top-left corner of the net to take the lead, 1-0. At the break, the Trojans held a 12-2 shot advantage with a 4-0 edge in corner kicks.
In the second half, both goalkeepers registered two saves in the initial 15 minutes, as UMO remained ahead. In the final minutes of the contest, sophomore
Caroline Hales made the defensive stop of the match as she saved a shot off the goal line at the 88:40 mark to obtain a 1-0 win on Saturday.

Nicole Solicito finished the match with five saves while playing all 90 minutes.
The Trojans held a 20-10 advantage on shots while also posting a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.
UMO returns to Conference Carolinas play on Wednesday, Oct. 25, when it travels to face Chowan with kickoff set for noon.
