Men's Volleyball Defeats Erskine College 3-2

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C.--  The University of Mount Olive defeated the Flying Fleet of Erskine College 3-2 in Conference Carolinas action on Senior Day. This win takes the Trojans to 12-4 overall and 9-2 in conference. Prior to the contest, seniors Tobi Azeez, Eric Visgitis, Luke Visgitis, Louie Hadfield, Tyran Gillespie, and Jarrod Ferguson were honored for their careers at UMO

The Flying Fleet saw an early 3-1 lead opening the contest. A Trojan kill for Senior Tobi Azeez gave UMO the 7-6 lead. A three-point Trojan run with dominating offense gave UMO the 14-11 lead. Mount Olive remained in control for the remainder of the set, winning 25-17. 

Erskine came out with momentum to open the second set taking an 8-6 lead. The Flying Fleet took another three-point run to extend their lead 11-8. The Trojan defense could not find an answer for the Erskine offense as the Flying Fleet took their biggest lead of the contest, 18-13. The Flying Fleet controlled the second set, winning 25-21. 

UMO found their momentum and opened the third set 4-1. Erskine answers back with a three-point run to tie the set at four. The two Conference Carolinas teams were back and forth until Erskine took a three-point run 10-8. The two teams went point-for-point until UMO took the lead with a three-point run, 16-15. The Flying Fleet took a crucial three-point run at the end of set three to win 25-23. 

The Flying Fleet showing no mercy, opened upset four with an 8-4 lead. The Trojans answered backed with a two-point run to tie the contest at 11. The Erskine offense extended the lead to 21-17. UMO responded with a three-point run 21-20. With the score tied at 25, the Trojans took a crucial two-point run to win set four, 27-25. 
 

The final set showed all Erskine as their opened upset five with a 5-1 lead. Later, a three-point Trojan run brought them within two 9-7. Another three-point Trojan run tied the contest at 10. The two teams went back and forth to tie the contest at 15. UMO took another two-point run to end set five and the match 18-16. 

MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS

Luke Visigitis led the Trojans with 14 kills, while Jarrod Ferguson had 54 assists. 

FLYING FLEET LEADER

Jason Sall led the Flying Fleet with 19 kills.
