Mount Olive, N.C. - The University of Mount Olive softball team swept a doubleheader against Francis Marion 1-0/15-0 Tuesday afternoon. UMO now improves to 17-5, 2-0 on the season.
GAME ONE INFORMATION
Mount Olive and Francis Marion began the opening game in a pitcher's duel. Neither team could find a run as both squads combined for 12 hits over the first seven innings.Â
UMO had a chance in extra innings to take the game in the eighth but wer held scoreless once again.
After holding FMU off the boards in the top of the ninth,
Kylie Emanuele advanced
Madison Morgan on the first out of the frame.
Cassandra Lassiter came up with the key hi as she drove in Morgan with a shot down the third base line and UMO walked off with the 1-0 win
TROJAN LEADERS
Lassiter along with the game winning hit helped lead the Trojans with two hits.
Hannah Killough (9-4) went the distance to get the shutout allowing seven hits and struck out six.
GAME TWO INFORMATION
The Trojans in game two wasted no time jumping a head after only scoring a single run in the earlier game.
Cana Shrock highlighted a three-run bottom of the first for UMO with a two-run RBI-single.
Emanuele and Carly Curio added to the Trojans lead in the third with a home run for each, increasing the UMO advantage to 6-0.
Mount Olive sealed the game in the fourth blasting home nine runs to secure the mercy-run rule victory, following a shutdown top of the fifth.
TROJAN LEADERS
Lassiter again led UMO with three RBI in game two.
Lauren King (6-1) went the complete game allowing just two hits to FMU, while striking out one.
ON DECK
The Trojans stay at Nancy Chapman Cassell field to host six games over three days. UMO begins the weekend against Fayetteville State on Friday, then ends the weekend against Alderson Broaddus and Shaw.
