Softball Cages Bears Of Shaw In Two-Game Sweep

Mount Olive, N.C. - The University of Mount Olive softball team swept a doubleheader against Shaw University 19-6/15-0 Sunday afternoon. UMO now improves to 19-5 on the season.

GAME ONE INFORMATION
Mount Olive exploded for six runs in the bottom of the first including RBI base knocks from Madison Morgan, Kylie Emanuele, Ashlyn Porter,  Emma Mooney, and Courtlyn Cooney.

UMO needing only two runs to secure the run rule victory in the second pushed across 13 more runs. Emanuele in her two at bats in the inning scored four runs via a home run and a double.

Shaw was able to scratch six runs across the final three innings but fell short to push the game into the sixth.

TROJAN LEADERS
Emanuele led the Trojans with five RBI going 3-3 with a home run.
Brianna Taylor (1-0) picked up the win in relief pitching the final three innings.

GAME TWO INFORMATION
The second game was not much better for the Bears as UMO held Shaw to just four hits along the way to scoring 15 unanswered runs to secure the mercy-run rule victory, following a shutdown top of the fifth.

TROJAN LEADERS
Carly Curio led UMO with two hits and two RBI in game two.

Hailey Kessinger (1-0) went four complete facing the minimum and struck out four.

The Trojans hit the road to take on Converse University March 18 at 1 p.m. in Spartanburg, S.C.
