SPARTANBURG, South Carolina - The University of Mount Olive men's basketball team fell to the Warriors of Southern Wesleyan University in the quarterfinals of the Conference Carolinas Tournament. The Trojan Men finished their season 16-13 overall and 14-9 in Conference.
INSIDE THE SCORE
The teams were back and forth to start the first half until the Warriors took an early seven-point lead with 14:30 remaining 13-6. A Trojan three-point from Cole Johnson brought Mount Olive within two of Souther Wesleyan 13-11. UMO could not find an answer for the Warriors as Southern Wesleyan took a 14-point lead with 2:27 remaining. SWU closed out the first half with a 14-point lead 35-21.
The Warriors continued their momentum into the second half as they extended their lead to 17 38-21. With 12:10 remaining the Trojans cut the lead to nine with a layup from Jeremiah Phifer 47-38. The Warriors did not let the Trojans within nine for the remainder of the contest. Southern Wesleyan took the 17-point victory over the Trojans to advance in the Conference Carolinas Tournament.
MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
Jeremiah Phifer led the Trojans with 11 points, while Trayvon Ferrell had seven rebounds.
WARRIORS LEADERS
The Warriors were led by Ta'Jay Dunlap with 18 points.
