Mount Olive, N.C. - The University of Mount Olive softball team took 3-of-4 games against Mercy College and West Liberty University over the weekend at Nancy Chapman Cassell Field. UMO now improves to 15-5 on the season. Mount Olive swept the opening games on Friday with 23-0 and 2-0 wins over Mercy and West Liberty respectively. UMO then on Saturday fell to WLU 4-1 before ending the day with a 6-2 over Mercy.
MERCY SERIES INFORMATION
Mount Olive in the first game against the Maverick unleashed a barrage of offense plating 10 runs in the first and second innings. The Trojans collected three home runs, two triples, and five doubles in the contest.
The Trojans in game two dialed back the offensive power only plating two runs in the first inning. Mercy countered in the fourth to tie the game for the final time.
UMO broke the tie in the fifth with two runs to regain the lead for the remainder of the game and record the sweep.
TROJAN LEADERS
Madison Morgan led the Trojans offensively with seven RBI over the two games.
Hannah Killough and
Lauren King both recorded wins in the contests, both going the distance.
WEST LIBERTY SERIES INFORMATION
The Trojans took game one against WLU midway through in the opening game Friday. UMO plated single runs in the fourth and fifth as the two scores were the only runs of the game.
In game two West Liberty was held off the boards until the sixth when a two-run home run and sacrifice bunt gave them a 3-0 lead. Mount Olive could only manage one run as the Hilltoppers took the opening game Saturday 4-1.
TROJAN LEADERS
Cassandra Lassiter led the offense as the only Trojan to record an RBI in both contests.
Lauren King (5-1) went the complete game in Friday's contest allowing three hits with six strikeouts.
Hannah Killough (8-4) was pinned with the loss in Saturday's game going seven complete allowing three runs off six hits with 12 strikeouts.

The Trojans remain at home on March 8 at 2 p.m. against conference rival Francis Marion University.
