MOUNT OLIVE (Dec. 11) – After facing off in four dual meets on Sunday, the University of Mount Olive women's wrestling program recorded a 3-1 record with wins over Emory & Henry, Ferrum, and Greensboro in Kornegay Arena while competing at the Trojan Duals.
 
With the results, the Trojans improve to 5-2 overall behind a 4-1 mark at home this season. The only loss for Mount Olive on Sunday came against nationally-ranked No. 16 Emmanuel in a tightly contested battle.

Mount Olive over Emory & Henry, 29-15

Against Emory Henry, freshman Cheyenne Lyle claimed a victory via forfeit at 101 before both sides forfeited at the 109 weight class. Fellow freshman Jillian Timberlake also won by forfeit before teammate Isabel Rodriguez (123) put together a stellar performance to win by a 10-0 technical fall over Carrie Jennings, as UMO held a 14-0 lead. At 130, freshman Brooke Hermel produced a victory via fall against Ava Thomas before freshmen Chloe Lawler (136) and Skyelar Smith (143) each won by forfeit to stretch the lead to 29-0. The Wasps answered three-straight victories via fall at 155, 170, and 191, but Mount Olive held on to win 29-15.
 
Against Ferrum, the Trojans collected six victories by forfeit in the dual meet, while featuring three head-to-head matches. The Panthers notched a victory by 11-0 technical fall in the 130 weight class and followed up with a win by fall at 143. Freshman Isabella Kessey secured a victory versus Jordan Wilson at 155 by fall, as UMO cruised to a 35-9 win.
 
Against Emmanuel, the meet was tied at 5-5 after Mount Olive registered a win by forfeit at 101, and the Lions recorded a victory at 109 via forfeit. Emmanuel grabbed the lead following a 12-0 technical fall in the 116 weight class before Hermel notched her second win of the day by fall against Annika Lindberg at 130. The Lions answered with a pair of victories, including a 10-0 technical fall at 130 and a fall in the 136 weight class to extend the lead to 18-10. The Trojans regained the advantage 20-18 after two forfeits at 143 and 155. Emmanuel rallied in the final two weight classes to pick up two victories and claim the dual meet win, 28-20.
 
Against Greensboro, the Trojans registered seven wins by forfeit, while both sides forfeited at 109 and 136. In the only face-to-face match, Isabella Ruiz of Greenboro recorded a 7-4 decision over Smith at 143, but the Trojans still claimed a 35-3 win.
 
Mount Olive returns to the mat on Sunday, Dec. 18, when they travel to Virginia to compete in the Wasp Open hosted by Emory & Henry.
