Raleigh, N.C.-- The University of Mount Olive defeated Shaw University 3-1 in non-conference action on Friday night. The win puts the Trojans on a three-game win streak and a 4-1 record overall..
1st Set
The Trojans stepped out to an early lead 6-1 with aces from Jenna Myer, Amara Eziakonwa, and a kill from Faith Harman. The points went back-and-fourth through the set, with the Trojans taking back control at the end with four straight points taking the set 25-19.
2nd Set
Keeping the same momentum from the previous set, the Trojans jumped out ahead 5-1. Trading off points one for one the Trojans took a three-point run with kills from Harman. Papavasileiou, and Stone extended the lead to 13-7. The Bears begun to run away with the match until the Trojan defense answered back. The Trojans finished the second set 25-19 with a kill from Starr Sergent.
3rd Set
The Trojans again started off strong jumping out to a 4-1 lead with a kill from Harman, and Papavasileiou. The Bears answered back with four straight points, until they were stopped by a kill from Ele'sia Williams making the score 5-5. After being down by two the Trojans offense, powered by Amara Eziakonwa, put Mount Olive up by one 15-14. The Bears traded single points with the Trojans for the rest of the set, with the Bears taking the 3rd set 25-17.
4th Set
The Trojans came into the 4th set fired up jumping to a 3-0 lead with two kills from Ele'sia Williams. UMO once more went point-for-point until the Trojan offense took control of the game with kills from Stone, and Myers. Mount Olive did not loss their momentum and took the 4th set 25-15.
