Women's Lacrosse Advances to Conference Carolinas Finals, Defeating North Greenville

TIGERVILLE, S.C. - The number one-seeded Trojans battled fourth-seeded North Greenville in the semifinal round of the Conference Carolinas Championship, Friday afternoon. Mount Olive won the contest by ten, 18-8, advancing to the finals held on Sunday, at 1 p.m.

GAME INFORMATION
After North Greenville's Rachel Kellogg rang one off the post, Denae Haeussler found the back of the net for the first goal of the game, putting the Trojans up 1-0 four minutes into the contest. After a couple of turnovers from both teams, it was Kelly Young's turn to score, ripping one past the goaltender and extending the Trojans lead to two, 2-0. The Trojans offense added three more goals before the Crusaders answered back with two back to back goals, bringing themselves within three of the lead, 5-2. With under ten minutes left to go in the first half, Shaelyn Yermal scored, followed by Nola Wesche and Meaghan Michaud, giving the Trojans a 8-2 lead. The Crusaders' Emma Mayew scored a goal late, sending the game into halftime, 8-3, Trojans.

After a free position save from Ciara Moorman, the Trojans offense was back to work early in the second half. With four quick goals from Jackie Kaderabek, Zoe Dougherty, Michaud, and Yermal, the Trojans extended their lead to nine, 12-3. Attempting to keep their season close, the Crusaders responded by scoring two goals, bringing the score to 12-5. The seven goal deficit was as close as the Crusaders came to tying it in the second half. The Trojans outscored the Crusaders 6-3 to take the final, 18-8. 

KEY MOMENT
Up by just three goals late in the first half, the Trojans added three more goals, giving them an eventual 8-3 lead heading to halftime. The Trojans only built on that lead, taking the final, 18-8.

With their win today, the Trojans advance to the finals, held this Sunday, at 1 p.m. They will face two-seeded Belmont Abbey.
