Mount Olive, N.C.– The University of Mount Olive women's soccer team defeated the Valkyries of Converse College 3-0 in the opening round of the Conference Carolinas Women's Soccer Championship Pool Play in Mount Olive, N.C.
Game Information
The Trojans came out of the gate with high intensity, looking to score early against Converse College. With high pressure, UMO had five scoring opportunities in the first 23 minutes of play. UMO found an opening as Sara Berglund found Senior Jaelyn Brown to put one behind the net to get their first point on the board leading 1-0 at the 25:42 mark. Mount Olive continued to find their rhythm in the game as Sara Berglund set up Jasmine Pinter to put yet another ball behind the net helping the Trojans lead by two at the 33:26 mark. Mount Olive kept their momentum and continued to be successful by keeping the Valkries out of the net and scoreless for the remainder of the half. UMO lead 2-0 going into halftime.
In the second half, UMO proved to be the aggressors early as they would put up six shots compared to just three by Converse in the first twenty-four minutes of the half. With eighteen minutes remaining in the match, Sara Berglund capped off the scoring with a goal, assisted by Jaelyn Brown and Emily Sanders. The Trojans kept their foot on the gas and would not allow a shot for the remainder of the match, winning 3-0.
