Hawks Upset the Trojans 4-0 in the Conference Carolinas Championships Pool Play

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - The University of Mount Olive men's soccer team fell to the Hawks of Chowan University 4-0 in the opening round of the Conference Carolinas Men's Soccer Championship Pool Play in Mount Olive, N.C. It was also senior day for 5 members of the UMO soccer team who were honored before the game.

INSIDE THE SCORE
The Hawks of Chowan University took the early 1-0 lead from Ruiz Erik as the ball slipped right passed the UMO goal keeper within the first 7:00 of the contest. Both sides played locked down defense until the Hawks offense was able to capitalize and score their second goal by Harrison Ardron assisted by London Williams and Zouhair Bettache with 13:00 remaining in the half. UMO's Benjamin Dufton-Kelly crashed the net on the 38th minute finding the net with a header, but the goal was called back due to an offsides call. The Trojans saw one more opportunity to finally get one on the board, but the Hawks goal keeper Ross Miller made the save off of a James Lang bottom center shot, and Mount Olive trailed 2-0 into half

In the second half, the Hawks came out with a little more fire and were able to put two more goals in the back of the net at the 53:14 mark and 56:03 mark. Chowan lead 4-0 with 34 minutes remaining in the game. The Trojans continued to play aggressively as they could only get five chances to score in the last minutes of the game, but still were unable to score. Mount Olive put up a good fight as the defense did not let the Hawks score the remainder of the game, but they took home the 4-0 win over the Trojans.

The Trojans were led by Alfie Pope and Zac Harvey-Latham who had two shots on goal. 

HAWKS LEADERS
Chowan University was led by Harrison Ardron, London Williams, Erik Ruiz, and Zouhair Bettache one goal each.

Mount Olive will continue to play in the 2021 Conference Carolinas Championship Home-and-Home Series as they face Chowan University on the Hawks home field in Murfreesboro, N.C. Sunday, April 25th at 4:00 P.M.
