Softball Splits Doubleheader Against King University

Bristol, Tenn. - The Trojans traveled down to Bristol, Tennessee for a doubleheader against King University on Friday afternoon. Mount Olive lost game one, 3-0, but won game two, 5-2.

GAME ONE INFORMATION
Hailey Kessinger got the start in the circle for the Trojans in game one. Kessigner sailed through the first inning, with two outs she hit a batter, but retired the next hitter, not allowing a hit in inning one. After grounding out for the first out in the bottom of the second inning, the Tornado got their second base runner of the day with a single to right field, then advancing to second on a mishandling of the ball in the outfield. The next batter smacked a double to center field, knocking in the first run of the day and putting the Tornado up, 1-0. One batter later, with two runners on base, King's Camryn Haag hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring one and extending the Tornado's lead to 2-0 through two innings.

In the bottom of the sixth inning the Tornado added an insurance run, increasing their lead to 3-0. The Trojans' Madison Morgan walked in the top of the seventh with two outs, but the attempted comeback stopped there, losing 3-0 in seven innings.

GAME TWO INFORMATION
It was a quick first inning as starting pitcher, Mallory Ratcliff, only allowed one hit, ending inning one. Courtlynn Cooney came to the plate next and brought home Bryant with a single up the middle, increasing the Trojans lead to two, 2-0.

After another solid inning by Ratcliff, the Trojans offense sprung for more. The first batter in the bottom of the fourth inning was Kylie Emanuele. Emanuele promptly ripped a shot down the right field line and hustled for a triple. Madison Morgan then scored Emanuele with a shot up the middle, giving the Trojans a 3-0 lead. Two batters later and with two on base, Hannah Burress put a ball in play, reaching on an error by the third baseman, and scoring Morgan, increasing the Trojans lead to 4-0. The Tornado added two runs in the fifth inning, but fell short as Megan Bryant sent a ball over the wall in the top of the seventh inning, making the score, and final, 5-2.
