MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - The Trojans hosted the Chowan University Hawks Tuesday afternoon. The Trojans swept the doubleheader, winning both games, 11-0 and 2-1, respectively.
GAME ONE INFORMATION
Mallory Ratcliff got the start for the Trojans in game one. The Trojans didn't take long to get the offense clicking. In the bottom of the first inning
Courtlynn Cooney singled home
Emma Mooney.
Kylie Emanuele then scored Cooney.
Cassandra Lassiter sent a SAC fly to center field, scoring Emanuele and giving the Trojans a 3-0 lead after one inning. After another clean inning from Ratcliff, the Trojans continued their scoring ways. With two runners on
Madison Morgan singled home a run, putting the Trojans up 4-0. One batter later and with the bases loaded, Cooney walked in a run. Her at bat was followed by
Megan Bryant scoring another Trojan with a SAC fly to center field, giving the Trojans a 6-0 lead after two innings.
After throwing three hitless innings, Ratcliff gave up her first hit in the top of the fourth but didn't allow a run as she sat down the next three batters in a row. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth inning,
Hannah Killough grounded out to shortstop, scoring Bryant. This was followed by a walk from
Alexis Oliver to reload the bases. No moment is too big for
Cana Shrock, and she proved just that. Shrock hit a grand slam to end the game in the fifth and give the Trojans an 11-0 win.
KEY MOMENT
The key moment came in the second inning. Up 3-0, the Trojans added three insurance runs giving them a 6-0 lead. Going on to win the game, 11-0.
TROJANS LEADERS
Cana Shrock collected four RBI with one swing of the bat. Hitting a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth inning to win the game.
Mallory Ratcliff only allowed one hit in five innings of work.
HAWKS LEADERS
Hannah Eden had a hit for the Hawks in game one.
GAME TWO INFORMATION
Game two started off as a pitchers duel. Both starters,
Hannah Killough for the Trojans and Megan Vincent for the Hawks, were locked in. Each pitcher only allowing a combined four hits through three innings. In the bottom of the fourth inning
Kylie Emanuele and
Cassandra Lassiter both singled to get on base but were left stranded by Vincent.
In the top of the sixth inning it was the Hawks who broke through first. With a runner on base, Killough gave up an RBI single. Giving the Hawks a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Emanuele used her wheels to even the score. Advancing home on an error by the cather, tying the game at one a piece through six innings. In a tied game, Killough came up huge for the Trojans in the top of the seventh. Sitting down the Hawks in order, giving the Trojans a chance for the win in the bottom of the inning.
Emma Mooney got on base to begin the inning, followed by a groundout from
Courtlynn Cooney, advancing Mooney to second base.
Megan Bryant brought the winning run home with a single up the middle. Trojans, 2-1.
KEY MOMENT
The key moment came in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Megan Bryant scored the winning run with a single up the middle, scoring Mooney, and avoiding extra innings.
