Trojans Return Home to Sweep North Greenville

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - After six days off the Trojans returned to action at Nancy Chapman Cassell Field, hosting North Greenville in a doubleheader. The Trojans won both games, 5-4 and 5-3, respectively.

GAME ONE INFORMATION
Mallory Ratcliff got the start for the Trojans in game one. After getting two runners on base to began the game, the Crusaders were left stranded by Ratcliff, ending the inning with a strikeout. The Crusaders, again, applying pressure in the top of the second by loading the bases, were left scoreless after a strikeout for the third out. In the bottom of the second inning it was the Trojans turn on offense. After Kylie Emanuele and Cassandra Lassiter singled to get on base, Alexis Oliver brought them home with a double to left center, putting the Trojans up 2-0. After a quick third inning North Greenville was challenging again to begin the fourth. After allowing a walk and a single to begin the inning, Hailey Kessinger came in to pitch for Ratcliff. After getting a groundout for the first out of the inning, the Crusaders struck with back to back RBI to tie the game, 2-2. 

The Trojans didn't allow the tie to last long. In the bottom of the fourth inning the Trojans loaded the bases with one out. Megan Bryant came to bat and cleared the bases with a three-run double, giving the Trojans a 5-2 lead. The Crusaders scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning, making it a one score game, 5-4. That proved to be the Crusader's last runs of the game as Hannah Killough came in to close in the seventh inning. Sealing a Trojans win, 5-4.

KEY MOMENT
The key moment came in the bottom of the fourth inning. In a tied game Megan Bryant knocked in three runs, giving the Trojans a 5-2 lead.

GAME TWO INFORMATION
Hannah Killough got the start in the circle for game two. It was smooth sailing for both pitchers in the first inning. In the bottom of the second inning the Trojans got the scoring started. Helping her own cause, Killough singled up the middle to get on base. Followed by a single by Cana Shrock. This prompted the Crusaders to change pitchers. The pitching change was followed by a single from Hannah Burress to load the bases. Emma Mooney walked in a run, giving the Trojans a 1-0 lead. This was followed by pinch runner Amber Parker coming home to score on a wild pitch. With two outs and two runners on base, Emanuele drove in two runs with a single to left field, giving the Trojans a 4-0 lead after two. With two runners on base in the top of the third inning, Killough struck out two batters for the final two outs, preserving the Trojans 4-0 lead. 

In the top of the fifth inning the Crusaders broke through for the first time, plating one and cutting into the lead, 4-1. Matching the Crusaders, the Trojans scored one themselves in the bottom of the fifth inning when Shrock singled in a run, putting the Trojans back up by four, 5-1. The Crusaders added two runs in the sixth but fell short, 5-3. 

KEY MOMENT
With the Crusaders threatening in the third inning pitcher Hannah Killough stranded two base runners by striking out two for the final two outs of the inning, keeping the Trojans up by four, 4-0.

The Trojans are back at Nancy Chapman Cassell Field next Tuesday, March 30th, in a doubleheader against Chowan University, starting at 2 pm.
