Belmont, North Carolina - No.7 seeded University of Mount Olive men's basketball team fall to the No. 2 seeded Belmont Abbey College 61-63 in the Conference Carolinas Quarterfinals Tuesday night.
INSIDE THE SCORE
The Crusaders opened the contest scoring the first basket before the Trojans added six straight points to take the lead 6-2 with 18:55 left in the first half. UMO went on a 14-11 run, taking a seventeen-point lead at the 9:55 mark. The Crusaders found their hot hand and were able to answer back quickly, going on a 7-1 run within two minutes, but still trailed behind 21-20. UMO was able to get in a rhythm after Quishaun Brevard made a three-pointer to keep the Trojans in the lead. Mount Olive never surrendered up the lead, the remainder of the first half, and the Trojans led Belmont Abbey 30-28.
The second half began with the Trojans tying the game at 30-30 with 18:33 left in the second half. The Crusaders went on a 17-12 run to take a five-point lead 47-42 at the 8:49 mark. Mount Olive's Alan Treakle made a three-pointer to tie the game 57-57 with 2:20 remaining in the game. The Crusaders weren't letting up and were able to break away, but Treakle made another field goal to tie the game back up 61-61 with only .8 seconds left. Trojans put up a good fight, but Belmont Abbey's Quest Aldridge helped finish the game with a buzzer-beater shot and took the 63-61 win.
MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
Matthias Caver led the Trojans with a season-high of 22 points. Johnny Hughes III and Alan Treakle all had double-digit scoring nights and 16 and 13 points.
BELMONT ABBEY LEADERS
The Crusaders were led by Quest Aldridge 12 points. Sean Halloran and LJ McCoy all had double-digit scoring nights as well, with 10 points.
KEY MOMENT
The game's key moment was in the excellent second half when the Crusaders' Quest Aldrine made a buzzer-beater to end the game with a 63-61 win.

Mount Olive's season comes to a close with their run to the quarterfinals of the 2021 Conference Carolinas Men's Basketball Championship. The Trojans finished the season with a 5-9,5-10 record and will return to action for the 2021-2022 season.
