Trojans Drop First Contest Of The Season To North Greenville 3-1

TIGERVILLE, S.C- The University of Mount Olive men's volleyball team fell to the Crusaders of North Greenville University 3-1 on Saturday afternoon on the road.

GAME INFORMATION
Mount Olive lost the opening point and saw North Greenville expand to a 12-8 lead. The Crusaders used a four-point run to grow the deficit to its largest of the set at 19-13, and even though UMO responded with 4-0 run themselves it was not enough to take back the set as they fell 25-21.

The second set had the Trojans take the first three points of the set and move out to a 10-7 lead. NGU was able to tie the set and eventually take the lead at 14-13, however, UMO bounced back with a 4-0 run to regain the lead, 17-14. The set ended with both teams going point-for-point, but Mount Olive ended up holding off North Greenville to win the set 25-21.

In the third UMO exploded to a 5-0 lead from the beginning and expanded the cushion to 12-5. NGU responded with an 11-3 run to tie the set at 15. The set was tied 10 more times before the Crusaders were able to take the final two points of the set and win 29-27 and move ahead 2-1 in the match.

The final set was a deadlock as it was tied 13 times before a true winner was determined. Once again NGU was able to take the final two points of the set and won 27-25 and won the match 3-1.
 

Mount Olive Leaders
The Trojans were led by Tobi Azeez with 16 kills in the match. Iyanu Adebisi led the defense with 12 digs and three blocks.

North Greenville Leaders
The Crusaders were led by Jackson Gilbert with 20 kills.

Key Moment
The key moment of the match came in the third when NGU used an 11-3 run to tie the set and took the final two points of the third.

Mount Olive will return to Kornegay Arena on February 24 and take on Barton College at 7 p.m.
