Box Score Wilson, N.C. --- The UMO Men's Soccer team took down arch rival Barton College 2-0 in Conference Carolinas action Wednesday night in Wilson, N.C.
INSIDE THE SCORE:
The Trojans (8-3-0, 6-0-0) took the lead midway through the opening period as
Roberto Hernandez found
Ethan Willie on the left hand side and the Trojans led first in the 22nd minute. Seven more shots left the feet of both squads, but none found the back of the net and UMO held their one goal lead into halftime.
The reigning Division II National Player of the Week wasted next to no time giving Mount Olive a two goal cushion as
Alfie Pope score in the first 33 seconds of the game.
After the goal from Pope, Barton (5-3-0, 4-1-0) fired off 16 shots at Trojan keeper Axle Engren but the Trojans did not crack. UMO held their 2-0 lead to remain unbeaten in conference.
Mount Olive Leaders:
Pope and Willie both scored for the Trojans with
Roberto Hernandez assisting in both goals.
Barton Leaders:
The Bulldogs were led by Tobias Nielsen with four shots for BC.
Key Stat:
The Trojans were out shot 22-to-13, but defeated the Bulldogs by not allowing any of their shots to lead to a score.
