Women's Volleyball Falls to Converse

SPARTANBURG, S.C.--  The University of Mount Olive fell to the Valkyries of Converse College 3-1 in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday. This loss takes the Trojans to 5-9 overall and 0-4 in conference.

1st Set
UMO started off strong taking the first two points in set one 2-0 with a kill from Amara Eziakonwa. The Trojans took a three-point run with two Trojan kills from Eziakonwa and Starr Sergent and UMO was on top 12-11. Mount Olive allowed Converse to take four-straight points and the lead 16-14. The Trojans did not stop their push as the regained the lead for the remainder of the set winning 25-20.

2nd Set
Mount Olive took their first lead in the second set 2-1 with a kill from Eziakonwa. The Trojans then took three-straight points off Valkyries errors. A kill from Trojan Ele'sia Williams brought the momentum back to UMO as they took another lead 9-8. Not much was heard from the Trojan side of the net for the remainder of set two as they fell 25-15.

3rd Set
Mount Olive started off slow in set three falling to 7-4. For every one Trojan point Converse answered with two to remain in control. UMO answered with a five-point run with dominating Trojan offense but still trailed 21-16. Converse never looked back taking set three 25-18.

4th Set
UMO started off the set down 7-3. The Trojan offense then scored two-straight points from Alyssa Jackson and Ashlyn Stone. After being down by six, the Trojans did not give up as they took a four-point run with three kills from Stone toe decrease the lead to 16-14. Mount Olive allowed Converse to get too far away as they lost the set 25-21 and the match 3-1.

"Played a great first set. If we get everyone firing like that for a complete match, we can beat anyone. My job to figure out how. So back to work on Monday." -says Coach Emma Celentano.

MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
Amara Eziakonwa led the Trojans with 10 kills. 
Madison Goodman had 19 assists and Starr Sergent had 11 digs. 

Valkyries LEADERS
Kiara Cannon led Converse with 14 assists.

Key Stat
Mount Olive fell to Converse in every statistical category except hitting percentage in the first set besting the Valkyries .424 to .200.
