WILSON, N.C.-- The University of Mount Olive defeated the Bulldogs of Barton College 3-1 in Conference Carolinas action on Wednesday night. This win takes the Trojans to 7-11 overall and 2-6 in conference.
1st Set
The Trojans and the Bulldogs both started out strong in set one with the score being tied at 3-3. UMO then took control of the game with dominating offense taking an eight-point run led by Madison Goodman 13-8. Mount Olive did not stop there as they took another five-point run with kills from Amara Eziakonwa, Ashlyn Stone, and Karoline Cox 23-14. The Trojans took set one 25-18.
2nd Set
Mount Olive had great offense in the start of the second set with Alyssa Jackson scoring the first point for the Trojans. Throughout set two Barton had no answer for the Trojan offense as Alyssa Jackson got another kill 12-8. UMO did not allow the Bulldogs to comeback taking set two 25-17.
3rd Set
Barton and UMO were back and forth in the start of set number three. A three-point run with two Trojan kills, Amara Eziakonwa, and Ashlyn Stone, brought the Trojans within two points 12-10. The Trojans could not seem to find an answer to the Bulldog offense as they lost set three 25-22.
4th Set
UMO came out strong in set four jumping to a 4-1 lead over the Bulldogs with a kill from Ashlyn Stone. The Trojan offense took control again with a three-point run with a kill from Amara Eziakonwa, and Ashlyn Stone 14-13. Barton had no answer for the Trojan hitters as UMO took the fourth set and the match 25-23.
Coaches Comments
"Great match today. We've emphasized our attacking, it was great tonight. Serving will be emphasized tomorrow and hopefully we can mesh the two categories to get a couple more wins this weekend," said coach Emma Celentano.
MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
Amara Eziakonwa led the Trojans with 15 kills.
Jenna Myer had 25 assists and Morgan Prots had 28 digs.
BULLDOG LEADERS
Brook Clute lead the Bulldogs with 27 kills.
Key Stat
Mount Olive beat the bulldogs in every statistical category throughout the match surpassing the Bulldogs in assist 52 to 34.
