MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina - The University of Mount Olive men's basketball team fell short 77-74 to the Warriors of Southern Wesleyan University on the 39th Annual Church Night, Saturday afternoon at Kornegay Arena in Mount Olive, N.C. UMO fell to 2-5 and 2-5 in conference, while SWU improved to 3-2 and 3-2.
INSIDE THE SCORE
UMO got on the scoreboard first scoring the first point of the contest with a layup from Johnny Hughes III. SWU found their first basket shortly after with a three pointer by Hunter Arusha. SWU found their momentum as they went on a 10-1 run to take the ten point lead 13-3 at the 16:22 mark. The Trojans were able to pull ahead by one with a layup by Darius Spragley to help UMO take the lead 21-20 with 7:31 remaining in the game. Both teams went back-to-back and battled it out on the court but SWU went on a 18-21 run to pull ahead by five and ended the first have 38-33.
Southern Wesleyan came out of halftime opening up a 10-point lead 43-33, in the first 2:00 of the second half. Mount Olive climbed their way back with 12 points with nine of the field goals were three-pointers made by Darius Spragley and Johnny Hughes III to help tie up the game 45-45 at the 14:39 mark. Southern Wesleyan continued to pull ahead by nine at te 11:24 mark and take the lead 54-45. Although the Trojans fought hard to come back, and even brought the SWU lead down to one point with only .3 left in the game, the Worriers ended up taking home the win 77-74.
