WILSON, North Carolina - The University of Mount Olive women's basketball team fell to Barton College 81-74 in Conference Carolinas action Thuresday afternoon. Barton improves to 5-1 overall and 5-1 in the conference, while Mount Olive falls to 3-3, 3-3.
INSIDE THE SCORE
Barton College scored the first points of the quarter and held the lead until 4:32 when Mount Olive jumped ahead 14-13. The Bulldogs responded with a three-pointer by Akira Wiggins to put Barton back in the lead by one. It didn't take long as the Trojan's Ivanda Hudjakova drained a three-point shot to put UMO back in the lead 17-16. Both teams went back and forth until the quarter ended as Mount Olive trailed behind by one 25-24.
The second quarter began with three Trojan baskets putting them up 30-25 at the 8:40 mark. The Bulldogs found their hot hand and went on an 8-2 run to take the lead 33-32. Both teams continued to battle the remainder of the quarter and eventually ended going into the second half with Barton leading by one yet again 45-44.
The third quarter started with a Trojan bucket, but Mount Olive quickly responded with one of their own, keeping the lead 47-46 with 8:46 remaining. Barton found their rhythm and led against the Trojans until 5:18, remaining in the ball game. The two teams continued to battle and eventually ended the third as the Trojans trail behind 67-64.
In the final quarter, Mount Olive took the opening points at the 6:21 mark. Barton kept their momentum going and was able to pull away as they went on a 14-9 run and took home the 81-74 victory.
MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
The Trojans were led by Azariah Fields with 23 points, four assists and eight rebounds. Ivanda Hudkakova also had 23 points and two assists. Ayonna A Cotten had double-digits scoring 16 points.
BARTON LEADERS
Bulldogs were led by Lauren Walker with 22 points. Shanika Peterkin, Akira Wiggins, and Jami Tham-Morrobel all had double-digit scoring performances with 15, 13,12 points.
KEY MOMENT
The key moment of the game was in the fourth quarter when the Bulldogs went on a 14-9 run to take the 81-74 win over the Trojans.
