MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina--- The University of Mount Olive men's and women's basketball teams on January 30, 2021, will host the 39
th Annual Church Night Basketball Games inside Kornegay Arena. Although fans will not be able to cheer on their favorite teams in person, the University will air the games and festivities on the
Trojan Sports Network with syndication on the
Official UMO Facebook page.
The Trojans will take on Southern Wesleyan University Warriors. The women will tip-off at 4 PM, followed by the men's game at 6 PM.
UMO women's basketball is 2-2 overall, 2-2 in conference play on the season thus far. The Trojans are 9-1 against SWU and 4-0 inside Kornegay Arena, last season UMO defeated the Warriors 92-44. The men's program is 1-4 overall, 1-4 in conference play with most recently a loss to NGU at home. The Trojans are 8-1 against SWU and 2-1 inside Kornegay Arena, last season UMO defeated the Warriors 77-71.
Between the games, UMO's elite a cappella group, Carolina Sound, will perform. Halftime between both the women's and men's games will feature games, prizes, special messages by UMO alumni, and an appearance from UMO President and First Lady Dr. and Mrs. H. Edward Croom.
According to Nicole Balsamello, Director of Admissions, the church with the most viewers will win a $500 UMO scholarship for one of their youth. Churches can register by visiting
