Box Score MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina - The University of Mount Olive men's basketball team fell to the Bulldogs of Barton College 90-81 in Conference Carolinas action Wednesday night. UMO falls to 14-9 overall and 8-7 in conference, while Barton improves to 9-13, 7-8.
INSIDE THE SCORE
The Mount Olive Trojans started the contest on top scoring the first points of the game, but Barton took control on a 12-0 run to take a 14-4 lead with 15:55 remaining. Barton continued to build on their lead and used a seven-point run to move ahead by 17 midway through the half. Mount Olive was finally able to break the deficit with a an 11-point run ending at the 4:54 mark trailing the Bulldogs 33-28. Matthias Caver gave the Trojans the lead with a three-pointer with three minutes left and UMO would eventually go into the break up 42-40.
The second half saw seven lead changes before Barton took the lead for good at the 10:35 mark with a three-pointer and the closest Mount Olive got to Barton's lead was four points as the Bulldogs maintained control and took the 90-81 victory.
MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
The Trojans were led by Michael Brown with 24 points. Matthias Caver, Darius Spragley, and Alan Treakle all had double-digit scoring performances with 18, 13, and 10 points respectively.
BARTON LEADERS
The Bulldogs were led by Michael Boykin with a team-high 30 points.
KEY MOMENT
The key moment of the game came midway through the second half when Barton broke the game's seventh tie for good and maintained control of the lead for the remainder of the contest.
