Mount Olive Sweeps Lees-McRae

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - The University of Mount Olive men's tennis team swept the Bobcats of Lees-McRae College on Friday afternoon in Conference Carolinas competition at the John Neal Walker Tennis Courts in Mount Olive, N.C.

INSIDE THE RESULTS

  • The Trojans got things rolling as they won all three doubles matches entering the singles bouts up 3-0.
  • The No. 3 Trojan pair started the winning as Pablo Safont Ferrer and Juan Arbelaez won their game 8-2.
  • The undefeated duo of Armando Ferreira and Jack Middleton maintained their perfect record winning the No. 1 doubles point 8-1, while Martin Moser and Jose Cortijos Planas won the No. 2 doubles game 8-2 for the clean sweep of the three doubles points.
  • In singles action, the odd numbers (1,3,5) played first for the men, as the team played simultaneous matches alongside the women.
  • Safont Ferrer was the first singles game to end as he won 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 5 position.
  • Cortijos Planas, at the No. 3 slot, clinched the match for the Trojan men's tennis team, also winning 6-1, 6-0.
  • Ferreira rounded out the first three men's games with a difficult 6-3, 6-0, win over the No. 1 Bobcat Muniz, who put up a solid fight against the Trojans No. 1 male player.
  • With the match clinched for Mount Olive, the remaining games were played with pro set rules, meaning the first player to eight points would win the flight.
  • Sherzod Akramov won the No. 6 flight 8-1, followed by Moser in the No. 2 position who also won 8-1.
  • Middleton wrapped up the men's match with an 8-2 win at the No. 4 position to give the Trojans their third sweep this season and helping the team maintain their undefeated Conference record, 3-0.

UP NEXT

The Trojans are back in action on March 17 as they host Conference Carolinas opponent King University. First serve is set for 9:30 a.m. on Saturday morning at the John Neal Walker Tennis Center as both the men and women take on the Tornado.
