University of Mount Olive swept all three doubles matches and won five singles matches in straight sets on its way to an 8-1 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne in non-conference men's tennis Friday at Hickory, N.C. Brahm Moolman dropped only two games in his 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles.
Mount Olive (4-1) lost only seven total games in the three doubles match as Edgar Bub and Rik Wolthuis won 8-2 at No. 1 doubles and Matthew Finnerty and Henric Falkenberg posted an 8-1 victory at No. 2 doubles. Stanley Roffe and Paul Wiederspahn finished with an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles.
Bub won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Finnerty posted a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 2 singles and Falkenberg won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 singles as the Trojans clinched the team victory. Roffe recorded a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles. Lenoir-Rhyne (1-3) won in three sets at No. 5 singles for its lone point.
Mount Olive has its home opener Sunday as the Trojans play host to nationally 17th-ranked Francis Marion University in a non-conference match-up. Match time is 1 p.m. at Walker Tennis Center on the University of Mount Olive campus.
