University of Mount Olive suffered its first home shutout in more than a month, falling to regionally 10th-ranked UNC Pembroke 3-0 in non-conference women's soccer Tuesday at Amon Field. The Trojans had won five of their previous six home matches.

For the second year in a row, Mount Olive (5-7-1) trailed 2-0 at halftime. Last year, the Trojans rallied for three goals in the second half. Although rain did pour down for the final three-plus minutes of Tuesday's contest, lightning did not strike twice for the Trojans.

Mount Olive narrowly missed getting on the scoreboard late in the first half on Alex Wetherholt's through ball from midfield to Ellie Barnes. UNC Pembroke goalkeeper Janae Aiken dove on the ball just in front of Barnes in the box to prevent a shot attempt.

UNC Pembroke (9-3-1) capitalized on a 2-on-1 to break a scoreless tie in the 14th minute. Amber Watkins dribbled to the right post and passed back to Rae-Shawna Campbell, who scored from 10 yards out. The Braves added a second goal at the 38:36 mark when Katie Watkins headed in Savanna Stiles' corner kick from the right corner. UNCP finished with 10 corner kicks.

The Braves closed out the scoring in the 60th minute when Lovisa Gustafsson put home a loose ball in front of the goal after Trojan goalkeeper Gigi Ramirez deflected a shot attempt.

Ramirez and Stephanie McCoy each played a half in goal and each recorded a save for Mount Olive, while Aiken tallied one save for UNC Pembroke. Neither team reached double figures in shots as UNCP finished with a 9-3 shot advantage.

Mount Olive returns to action Friday as the Trojans travel to Tigerville, S.C., to take on North Greenville in a Conference Carolinas match-up. Match time is 2 p.m.
