Trojans Fall To Division I Campbell 6-0 In Season Opener

Mount Olive kept the match scoreless through the first 30 minutes, but two goals in a four-minute span broke the deadlock as the Trojans fell to Campbell 6-0 in non-conference women's soccer Thursday at Buies Creek, N.C. The match was Mount Olive's 2013 season opener and its first against a Division I opponent in seven years.

After staving off seven Campbell shot attempts, Mount Olive (0-1-0) had a chance to score the first goal on Carlee Bock's shot in the 25th minute. Campbell goalkeeper Alexis Connors made the save to keep the match scoreless.

Campbell (3-1-0) got on the scoreboard at the 29:45 mark when Cydney Smith's shot hit the crossbar and Alexis Prada headed in the rebound to put the Camels on top 1-0. Murita Storey added a goal at 34:16 and Campbell led 2-0 at halftime. Kine Thorsvik recorded a hat trick for Campbell in the second half, scoring three goals in a span of 11 minutes. The Camels added a goal with three seconds left in the match.

The Trojans played a pair of freshmen in goal. Stephanie McCoy faced 15 shots and recorded two saves in the first half, while Batson faced 19 shots and had seven saves in the second half. Mount Olive was outshot 34-2 for the match.

Mount Olive's last women's soccer match against a Division I opponent was August 29, 2006, at South Carolina State. The Trojans won 3-0.

Mount Olive has its home opener Saturday as the Trojans play host to Mars Hill in non-conference action. Match time is 4 p.m. at Amon Field.
