Box Score Mount Olive suffered its fourth loss in five matches on a goal after the 80th minute as the Trojans fell to Converse 1-0 in Conference Carolinas women's soccer Saturday at Spartanburg, S.C. The deciding goal came with less than four minutes left in regulation.
Mount Olive (1-6-1 overall, 0-3-0 Conference Carolinas) and Converse (6-3-0, 1-1-0) appeared to be headed to overtime as Trojan goalkeeper Stephanie McCoy recorded five saves on 10 shots. But the Valkyries' 11th shot proved to be the game winner as Natalie Johnson scored at the 86:10 mark.
The Trojans had three of their five corner kicks during the final 20 minutes of the match, but were unable to capitalize. Mount Olive recorded six of its eight shots in the second half.
Mount Olive was coming off a 1-0 double-overtime loss at Barton Wednesday on a goal in the 106th minute. The Trojans fell to North Greenville 3-2 in overtime last Saturday on a goal in the 96th minute. Mount Olive's other one-goal loss came on a goal in the 89th minute in a 2-1 loss at Catawba.
Mount Olive returns to action Tuesday as the Trojans play host to St. Andrews in a non-conference match-up. Match time is 7 p.m. at Amon Field.
