Box Score Damilia Brooks scored the tying goal with six seconds left in regulation, but North Greenville scored the game winner in overtime to defeat the Trojans 3-2 in Conference Carolinas women's soccer Saturday at Amon Field. The match was the conference opener for both teams.
Mount Olive (0-4-1 overall, 0-1-0) trailed 2-1 after North Greenville (4-2-0, 1-0-0) scored a tie-breaking goal in the 82nd minute. But Alex Wetherholt found Brooks, who put home her first goal of the season to send the match into overtime.
The Trojans gained a one-player advantage four minutes into the overtime as a North Greenville player was issued a straight red card. But it would be the Crusaders who would capitalize on a Trojan foul as Lindsey Tuten scored in the 95th minute to give North Greenville the win.
The goal was the second of the match for Tuten, who also scored the go-ahead goal late in the second half.
Mount Olive took a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute as freshman Sterling Peterson scored her first collegiate goal. Peterson scored on a header off a corner kick by Carlee Bock.
North Greenville answered with a goal by Courtney Etheridge four minutes later as the two teams went into halftime tied 1-1.
The Trojans outshot North Greenville 16-12 for the match.
Mount Olive concludes its weekend homestand Sunday as the Trojans play host to Lincoln (Pa.) in non-conference action. Match time is 2 p.m. at Amon Field.
