Box Score Carly White recorded nine kills and only one error in 12 attempts and Mount Olive posted its seventh in its last nine matches as the Trojans defeated Saint Augustine's 25-18, 25-18, 25-11 in non-conference women's volleyball Saturday at Raleigh, N.C. The win brought the Trojans' record to .500 for the first time this season. Mount Olive was awarded the third set after the match was halted to a netting system malfunction.
Mount Olive (13-13) trailed by as many as five points in the third set and was down 11-8 when the netting system malfunctioned. Attempts to repair the net were unsuccessful and by rule, the Trojans were awarded the set 25-11.
Each of the first two sets were played to completion as three aces by Charnel Austin triggered a 6-0 run to give Mount Olive a 22-15 lead in the first set. Kills by Lauren Lee and White on the final two points closed out the set.
Two kills by Sarah Robertson helped stake Mount Olive to a 3-0 lead in the second set and the Trojans led the rest of the way. The Trojans extended the lead to six points before Saint Augustine's (8-15) pulled within 15-13 after a kill by Skyla Isidore. White's kill ended the Vikings' run and the Trojans pulled away. Libero Nicole Sparks recorded a back row on set point after Saint Augustine's was called for a blocking error.
Four Trojans were second behind White with three kills apiece as statistics were skewed by the shortened match. White added five blocks for Mount Olive, while Elyse Keating had 19 assists. Austin led all players with three aces.
Isidore shared match-high honors with nine kills for Saint Augustine's.
The Trojans have compiled a 13-6 record after starting the season with seven straight losses.
Mount Olive will spend the final week of the regular season on the road with three Conference Carolinas matches. The Trojans travel to Misenheimer, N.C., Tuesday to take on Pfeiffer. Match time is 7 p.m.
